Conversation can sometimes be like a game of poker, raising and doubling stakes, as the Andrew Marr Show demonstrated on Sunday.

Marr raises the stakes in line 04 by suggesting that the Government’s Brexit proposal was in effect ‘fake’ sovereignty. Michael Gove, the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, after a brief pause, saw that stake in line 06 and then doubled the bet in line 07.
