4005HUM Discourse and Digital Media
The aim of this module is to develop your awareness of the structure and organisation of discourse at levels above the sentence. We will look at the use of language in a range of social contexts, moving beyond literal meaning to consider the role of pragmatic processes in the manipulation of interactions and construction of identities. We will also consider how more and more discourse has moved into the digital world and how this medium shapes and alters the conversations and interactions we have. We will analyse written, spoken and digital discourse, and emphasis will be placed on analysing authentic real-world data in context.
